Martin-Lysicrates Prize - Riverside & ATYP
The Martin-Lysicrates Competition celebrates the best new Australian writing for young people, specifically years 7 and 8. It is the only play competition for students where the winner is selected by the votes of the audience, and so is highly participatory. It’s also lots of fun. Talented Australian playwrights submitted the first act of a brand new play to the Prize and the three finalists’ entries received a staged reading. At the end, the students voted on which play they’d like to see finished. It’s a modern twist on a proud democratic and theatrical tradition from ancient Greece, the birthplace of world theatre.
